Salvation is not Static
Adam and Eve were deceived and stumbled into sin. But, God is more. God promised that the serpent would be defeated, and in the Book of Revelation we find that eternity includes a tree of life and the throne of God. The world was living in a wretched state of spiritual darkness, and a flood drowned out humanity. But, God is more. To this day, we see rainbows that remind us of God’s everlasting promise to Noah. Abraham and Sarah longed for a child. God gave them more. They were blessed with Isaac and descendants that number the stars. Joseph was a favored son who was sold into slavery by jealous brothers. His owner’s wife falsely accused him and he was sentenced to prison. But, God is more. Joseph rose through the ranks in a foreign land and saved thousands from the ravage of famine. God’s chosen were enslaved in Egypt for 400 years. But, God is more. He sent plagues upon the Egyptians and prepared Moses to lead the Jewish people out of bondage into the Promised Land. Jesus’s friend, Lazarus, died. But, God is more. Christ called him out of the grave, and he lived again. The Messiah, The Son of God was crucified and buried in a borrowed tomb. But, God is more. Jesus was resurrected and ascended into the heavens to be seated at the right hand of the Father. There is even more! Christ sent the Holy Spirit to seal the salvation of all who believe.
Are you in despair over your personal circumstances? Are you fighting addiction or cancer? Are you bound by grief? Is your family spiritually lost? Are you spiritually depleted? Are you craving what the world has to offer rather than the incomparable riches of God’s grace? Are you a slave to anger, or money, or politics? Are you on the precipice of death or divorce? Do you have enemies? Do you live in fear? Is loneliness your only companion? God is still more! The Bible is filled with stories of when God stepped in and totally turned the tables on a situation. He can surely be trusted. Cling to Him and accept from Him that which He obtained for you.
Salvation is not static. God’s grace is exponentially expansive. Breathe in God’s grace as you walk in faith. As a citizen of God’s kingdom, you have so much to DO! Faith without works is dead. But, God is more. In Ephesians 2:9 it reads that you have been created to do good works that God has already prepared in advance for you to do. I am astonished that God planned out so many custom-made opportunities tailored just for me to grow in my faith. I am also so humbled. Because now I see that when I have done something “good” it is because God has made the opportunity available to me.
God began the work of salvation at Calvary. Christ’s resurrection proves he won the battle with death. Continue to live your salvation. It is so important for you to walk by faith and do good works. God did not leave any of it to chance. The Father has sprinkled so many opportunities to do good along your path. Take part in your salvation day by day, step by step, choice after choice.
Because God is more, you can cast light in profound darkness. Because God is more, you can feed those who are starving. Because God is more, you can seek healing for those who are sick. Because God is more, you can share your abundance with those who are in need. Let’s be a conduit of God’s expansive grace.
Because God is more, He will honor your good works spawned by your faith. When you die, one day you too, will be resurrected. Because God is more, you will reign with Him in the glories of Heaven. I cannot fathom what that will be like. But, I am looking forward to it, because God has demonstrated over and over that He excels in being more.
